Officials in the nation's capital say it's unclear what caused the deadly rush-hour collision of two Metro transit trains in northeast Washington D.C.
DC Mayor now says four were killed in rush-hour collision of Metro trains. DC Metro officials say one of those killed was a female train operator. A spokesman for the D.C. fire department described the collision as a "mass casualty event."
He said crews had to cut apart the wreckage to free some passengers.
Over 60 passengers have been injured in the crash of two Metro trains.
District of Columbia Fire Chief Dennis Rubin says that about 50 of the passengers fell into the quote -- walking wounded -- category of injuries.
Rubin says that about a dozen additional people were in his words "yellow-tagged" with somewhat more serious injuries
A DC Metro official says one train stopped, second train plowed into it from the rear.
